Our People

Behind every journey with ACTS is a team of dedicated people who make it all possible. From our coordinators to our volunteer drivers and trustees, each person plays an important role in keeping our community moving.

Our team works together to provide safe, reliable and friendly transport across Annandale & Eskdale. Get to know the people who help plan the routes, answer your calls, drive the vehicles, and support the day-to-day running of our charity.

Geoffrey is a retired local government accountant who has been on the board for ACTS since 1999 as treasurer. More recently he became the chairman of the charity following on from the late Willie Fergus

Erik Jensens

I’ve been with ATI/ACTS since I retired 13 years ago from a career in industrial instrumentation in the nuclear and pharmaceutical fields. The high point in my career was being appointed Electrical Design Engineer for an industrial boiler manufacturer, a role that gave me great satisfaction.

I was once asked why I became a volunteer driver and my answer was a culmination of wanting to give back to a community that had provided me with work, opportunity to thrive, enjoying meeting people and being able to help someone less fortunate than myself.

Liz Thompsons

Liz is a retired NHS senior manager and has experience of working in the charity sector and local authority adult education. She has lived in Dumfries and Galloway for over 40 years and is a trustee of several charities. Her interests include crafts, theatre and walking with friends and her dog.

Simon Macdonald

I joined ACTS as a volunteer driver in early 2021 to help individuals and community groups to get to their appointments and social activities. Many people have no access to transport and poor public services exists in the rural areas that ACTS covers. I have been a board member since late 2021 and enjoy contributing to the running of this charitable organisation making a difference to people’s daily lives through kindness, caring and assisting individuals in our community.

I have IT specialist skills from previous roles which will contribute to the effective running and sustainability of the business systems in use by ACTS staff
