Two ATI directors, Bert McDonald and Gordon Ferrie, were invited to attend by Community Transport Association (Scotland). Over 300 delegates attended with the aim of the event being to promote the work of local people and to help influence national policy development.
Throughout the day it was very clear that there was strong support from both national and local government to support community organisations like Annandale Transport Initiative. Bert McDonald particularly enjoyed the ‘Emporium of dangerous ideas’ and attended the presentation on “Can communities run public services?” It was clear that ATI meets the objectives of the Scottish Community Alliance with its emphasis on a greener, healthier and fairer Scotland. Gordon Ferrie, Director, said, “this was a very positive event which emphasised the benefits of strong voluntary groups to the local community”. There was a strong feeling of optimism that there will be continuing support for the hundreds of voluntary groups which operate locally and are essential for the well being of local people.
