John Horne and Tom Armstrong ready and waiting to take people to hospital appointments A new community car has been based in Langholm by Annandale Community Transport Services. The car is wheelchair accessible and was funded by The Arthur Bell of Langholm Trust, the Stevenson Trust, the Bowman Little Trust Fund, D&G Regionwide Community Fund and by Muirhall Energy Ltd.
The car is available to take local people in Langholm, Canonbie and the surrounding area to hospital appointments at Dumfries, Carlisle, Glasgow, Edinburgh. A £3 annual membership fee is charged in addition to an affordable fare; for example £10 for a return journey to Dumfries, £25 to Glasgow. The service is driven by local trained volunteers who give their time to the community.
The car is fitted with a protective screen between the driver and passenger and sanitised between passengers. Both passenger and driver wear a mask throughout the journey unless exempt.
Anyone requiring transport should contact the ACTS office on 01576 203053, Monday to Friday, 9am – 12 pm or email [email protected]. At least 48 hours notice is required, more if possible. Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer driver should also contact ACTS.
